Area Description:
Sabana is one of first developments on the west side of San Jose. Up to around 40 years ago it was a coffee plantation. Master planned, it has two main boulevards going from east to west. The entire neighbourhood is well accessable. Sabana is home to a mix of residences and commercial properties, including several medium sized malls & commercial centers. Many embassies have been located here for years now.
.The area around the park is rapidly becoming the new 'heart of the city', with comparisons being made to New Yorks Central Park, although clearly much smaller. The basic idea is the same however; the park being a large landscaped recreational area right in front of your condominium tower or house. The entire Sabana area will be buzzling with activity once the dozen towers that are under construction, with up to 17 floors each, are finished in 2010. The new national arena that will be built in the place of the old one, on the north-west corner of the park, will only add more activity to this. sabana is a nice area, popular with people that want to live close enough to the city center to be convenient (for work or pleasure0, yet far enough away to avoid many of the negatives. sabana is only 5 minutes driving from Escazu, the latter being home to the largest shopping Mall in Costa Rica (Multiplaza), with its many shops and movie theaters, to the country club and golf course, and to the best hospital of Central America (CIMA).
